Achieving our goal of becoming the best place to bank begins with being the best place to work. BrightBridge’s talented Human Resources team works hard each day to create excellent experiences for our team members—from their first day to their first year and beyond. This month, we are thrilled to spotlight Benefits Manager Victoria Monzon, who goes above and beyond her duties to lead initiatives that promote wellness and camaraderie throughout the credit union.
Victoria has worked for BrightBridge for three years and in addition to being a positive force in the HR department, she leads the credit union’s Health & Wellness Club. The club is dedicated to supporting the overall wellbeing of our team members through monthly newsletters packed with helpful tips and fun features and interactive company events like step challenges, trivia competitions and uplifting postcards of encouragement. The club, which is made up of BrightBridge team members from several departments, brings a sense of community and positivity to our workplace.
Victoria shared a little bit more about what she loves about bring a member of the BrightBridge team and why promoting health and wellness is important to strengthening workplace culture.
Working with benefits and leaves of absence, I’ve enjoyed being able to help our teammates through difficult situations and support them during that time. I’ve seen employees at their best times and not so best times, and it’s always a rewarding feeling to help others and show empathy no matter what the situation may be. We have a really amazing team and I am just so grateful to be able to uplift them whenever I can.
We might not all realize that health and wellness can mean taking care of yourself physically, mentally, and even financially. It’s important to be able to share helpful information with our team and highlight tools and resources for them to use in their lives, but also trying to have some fun with it. Our own health and wellness can sometimes get lost in the shuffle in the day-to-day and it’s important to bring it back to the surface as much as we can.
I think it also goes back to working on leaves of absence for employees where you start to see what some employees are going through and how life/work can take a toll on you. I think the more information and fun activities we’re able to share, the more we’re able to support our team and provide a break from common stressors.
Our ongoing mission is to consider how we can continue to support BrightBridge team members with resources throughout their life and career with the credit union because I keep learning that getting old is not easy!
In just a few weeks, we will join forces with the Power of Flowers Project to create bouquets for community members in need. It’ll be a wonderful evening of wellness (through flowers!) and community service with a bunch of BrightBridge team members. We are also organizing walking groups for our team members so they can enjoy the spring and summer weather together and planning a Health & Wellness fair this fall. There’s so much we’re looking forward to!
When I’m not working, I enjoy baking (I was once a cake decorator but now I like to do it for fun and stress relief!), picking fruit at a local farm (Ward’s Berry Farm is our go-to!), or visiting our local garden center because my husband likes to take on new home projects.
